You’re exhausted from being the person you “should” be rather than the person you truly are.
You are smart and capable. Outwardly, you hold it all together. You work hard to meet all the “right” expectations. You do all the “right” things to optimize your day. You show up for everyone all the time. But on the inside, you run on shame and guilt. You feel disconnected from yourself and feel like your confidence has crumbled.
That’s not what you deserve, and it ends today.
You are not the problem. You never have been.
Let me offer you a space for empowered change.
I’m Shelby.
And I have been exactly where you have.
I spent years at war with my body and put myself last, always. I believed that if I just had “enough” willpower and “better” dedication that I could feel better. I was drowning in the expectations of others and had no idea who I was as a woman. I had lost my identity and felt powerless. I became a therapist because I found my way out, and I want you help you do the same thing.
I work with adult women who are tired of feeling unworthy or unheard, who view their body as a problem, and who want to stop chasing the myth of perfection. I work from a Feminist perspective to help clients understand not only their personal life, but also how the social world around them impacts feelings of worth and expectations.
Areas of Focus
Body Image & Eating Disorders
Stop hating your body. We will explore your relationship with food and weight and rebuild it on your terms.
Anxiety & Perfectionism
You don’t need to be perfect. Let’s figure out what you actually need and want for yourself. Set your own standards.
Identity & Self-worth
Find your voice. Set real boundaries. Make choices that reflect who you truly are. Feel strong and powerful.
You deserve the life you actually want.
I believe women are strong, beautiful, and capable. Unfortunately, for a lot of us, we don’t hear that message often, if at all. Instead, we receive messaging from society, our family, our friends, and media of what we “should” want, do, and look like. Our voices and desires are stifled in order to make everyone else comfortable. It’s bullshit.
I’m done living a life that serves the needs of everyone else in a system designed for men to succeed and women to be told to “keep trying.” I want to help other women feel the same freedom and power to start taking up space, speaking up, and loving themselves without judgment. The ultimate rebellion.
Types of therapy I use:
-
This treatment approach focuses on helping women understand their life and experiences in relation to social, gender, cultural, and economic dynamics and how to unlearn limiting external expectations.
-
This treatment approach focuses on understanding the messaging and stories you have been told about yourself and the world around you and how to change the story to one you want.
-
This treatment approach focuses on identifying your values in order to create behavior change that is purposeful and meaningful to you.
